Summary
In this paper, current state of Ukrainian steppe ecosystems is analyzed and recommendations for diminishing ongoing destructive processes are given. First necessary step would be to convert the most significant steppe territories to protected areas. Also, in Ukraine it is advisable to discriminate the nature protection into regime of absolute protection (no human impact) and that of managed biodiversity, between nature reserves and other categories protected areas. Also, information and legal vacuum concerning steppe problems is found to exist in Ukraine.
