On behalf of several eco-NGOs, a Public Prosecutor’s Office forced regional authorities to cancel their unlawful Decree giving several plots of the Black Sea shore to private developers.
Several weeks ago we got tipped off about a Decree by Leninska raydergadministracia (the administration of Leninsky district) No. 406 (March, 30th, 2010) and No.382 (March, 25th, 2010). These Decrees allocated plots of seashore to private owners to be developed. The plots are under the jurisdicition of Mysovska and Marjivska village councils in the Leninsky district of the Crimean Republic. They are also environmentally invaluable as coastal biotopes sustaining birds of Red Data Book of Ukraine: the Great Bustard (Otis tarda), the Demoiselle Crane (Anthropoides virgo), and the Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea).
This news prompted us, namely the NECU, the KECC, and the Team of Environmental Conservation ‘Zelene Maybutne’ (‘Green Future’), to address the General Prosecutor’s Office. And now, some weeks later, we were told that our petition’d been duly processed, the Decrees appealed against, and one of them already cancelled. Kerchenska mijrayonna pryrodoohoronna prokuratura (The Kerch Interdistrict Environmental Public Prosecutor’s Office) sent NECU a letter that due to their appeal, the Decree # 382 had been cancelled. Also, we shall be informed about the results of the appeal against the Decree # 406 later.
